Abstract:

Technological progress, globalization, flexible working models and, last but not least, the consequences of the corona pandemic have fundamentally changed collaboration in modern organizations. The result is an increase in virtual teamwork, i.e. collaboration that is largely mediated via information and communication technologies – often across different locations.

This presentation will focus on what characterizes virtual teamwork, what effects can be expected and how potential challenges can be met. Above all, we will look at how virtual teamwork is reflected in the experience and behavior of teams beyond structural factors (such as physical distance or use of technology). Finally, we will discuss how existing findings on virtual teamwork can contribute to the design of hybrid and flexible working models now and in the future.
