Constant access to information and communication tools makes us more productive than ever:
Smartphones have become indispensable in many areas of life. However, they can also be a major source of distraction. Interruptions from emails, social media and constant notifications hinder the flow of work, bind attention and make it difficult to concentrate on a task throughout.
Our research aims to investigate the use of smartphones at work and the associated cognitive processes in more detail. This includes, for example, dealing with exogenous and endogenous interruptions, the role of distracting thoughts about (potentially) missed information and media multitasking.
Based on the findings, individual strategies and recommendations will be developed to support focused and efficient use of smartphones.
